Treating sinus with medication works well but you need to be aware that this can also be treated with different home remedies. The sinuses are lined with the mucus membrane, which is a type of a skin. When you go through an infection or an allergy, the lining of the sinuses tend to swell. This can lead to a feeling of some kind of pressure around the nose, above the eyes and the cheeks. These areas experience pain.

Here are some tips to help you relieve the sinus pressure.

  1. Water and more Water:

Run a vaporizer or a humidifier and ensure you drink more than your normal quota of water. Humidification and fluids can help in making the mucus thin and flushing this out gets easier. This can keep your skin hydrated and also lubricate the sinuses.

  1. Steaming Up:

Inhalation of steam can help soothe the tissue of the sinus and you get a feeling that this is cleared to a certain extent. All you need to do is stand under a warm shower or place a washcloth which is warm over your nose when you are resting.

You can also boil a vessel of water and take off the heat. You need to tent a towel over the head and inhale the steam by bending over the vessel of hot water. Make sure your eyes are closed and do not stand too close to the water. You have the choice of adding a drop or two of eucalyptus oil for additional relief.

  1. Acupressure:

Acupressure involves the application of pressure at specific points in the body to relieve different symptoms or different types of pains. This has been used since decades for treating different types of flu, clods and also sinus. It is advisable to get this done by a professional so that you can benefit to the maximum.

  1. Cold and Warm Compress:

Rotating cold and warm compress can also offer relief with your sinus problem. Lay back with the hot compress placed across your cheeks, nose and forehead for around three to four minutes. Replace the warm compress with a cold compress for around 30 seconds. This needs to be repeated 2 to 3 times for the required relief.

You can do this 2 to 6 times each day.

  1. Eat Foods for Boosting Immunity:

Ensure you eat a well-balanced meal with enough of onions, ginger and garlic added to this. There are specific foods for boosting immunity. Alternately you can drink ginger tea with a little of raw honey.

When to Consult a Doctor:

You need to consult a doctor when

  • The symptoms seem to be getting worse
  • You develop a fever of more than 100 degrees
  • Symptoms have lasted for more than ten days.

Sinus infections are quite common and normally tend to go away within a span of around 10 days. The natural home remedies can help relieve the symptoms and offer some relief. The germs that cause sinus can be contagious in some cases.
