Home Remedies for Athletes Feet

Athlete’s feet are a problem of the skin which is caused by a specific fungus. This is definitely bothersome but rarely something to worry about. This infections starts between the toes and causes a rash which is scaly and itchy that can have a burning or painful sensation. There are quite a few individual who experience blisters or ulcers. This athlete’s foot can be treated at home effectively.

  1. Garlic:

Studies have proved that garlic has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and thus can be used effectively as multiple home remedies. All you need to do is soak three to four crushed garlic pods in a basin of warm water and soak your feet in this for about 30 minutes. This needs to be done at least twice a day for around a week or so.

  1. Talcum Powder and Hair dryer:

Fungi need a specific environment to grow and thrive. It is thus important to get rid of moisture between the toes. You can do this by drying your feet using a dryer, after your bath. This ensures there is no moisture left. Once your feet a dry, you need to sprinkle some talcum powder to help in the absorption of sweat.

You can also choose socks which specifically absorb the moisture. Socks made of synthetic wicking fabric, wool or even bamboo is ideal for the absorption of sweat. Try to wear open footwear during summers.

  1. Iodine and Hydrogen Peroxide:

Iodine and peroxide are normally used to disinfect wounds and cuts and kill different germs on the skin. It has been proved that iodine mixed with peroxide can kill almost 16 different types of fungi. Mix iodine and peroxide in a large bowl and dip your feet directly in this solution. You can also use cotton pads and apply this mixture to the areas which are affected by athlete’s feet. Ensure this solution s diluted so that the skin is not damaged in any manner.

  1. Sea Salt Baths:

Sea salt bath works as an ideal treatment for athlete’s feet due to the multiple antifungal and antibacterial properties it has. You can mix sea salt with vinegar and make a paste or you can dissolve one cup of sea salt in bathtub of warm water. Ensure you soak your feet in this for a minimum of 20 minutes.

  1. Vicks Vaporub:

Generally used for relieving the symptoms of a bad cough, vicks vaporub is also ideal for treating athlete’s feet. This is due to the presence of eucalyptus oil and menthol, both of which have anti-fungal properties. You need to rub vicks on the area which is affected every night for at least a month.

When to see a Doctor?

Ensure you take an appointment with your doctor if you find no difference in the athlete’s feet after a week of trying out the home remedies. There are chances you might require anti fungal either in the oral form or the topical form for getting rid of the infection.
