A toothache is definitely one of the worst pains experienced by any individual. This pain can almost numb you. You might not even need to visit the dentist if this is cured. For a minor toothache, a salt water rinse or even a cold compress can work well. You need to check with your dentist if the pain persists for more than a day or so.

*A warm and wet tea bag has helped many suffering from a toothache. This is due to the presence of astringent tannins which can reduce the swelling and offer you some relief on a temporary basis.

*Take a glass of warm water and mix half a teaspoon of salt in this. Rinse your mouth for at least 30 seconds. This salt water rinse can control the pain to a large extent and help you deal with the same.

*Swish with a hydrogen peroxide solution of only 3%. This kills the bacteria and offers some relief. It is important to check with a dentist as infections need to be treated with anti-biotic.

*At times, you suffer from a toothache due to the filling falling off or even a part of the tooth breaking. You need to cover this area with chewing gum for some relief till the time you get this rectified by your dentist.

*Cloves have been used for the treatment of a toothache since a long time as the oil present in cloves brings down the inflammation and reduces the pain. The eugenol present in cloves is considered as a natural antiseptic.

*The antioxidant and antibacterial properties of thyme can help in the treatment of toothaches. A few drops of water along with a few drops of thyme oil need to be dabbed on a small ball of cotton. This is applied to the area which is affected. You can add a few drops of thyme oil in a glass of water and use this as a mouth wash.

*The alcohol present in the vanilla extract makes this ideal for relieving toothache. This is also considered as an effective healer due to the antioxidant properties. A few drops of vanilla extract needs to be dabbed on a cotton ball and applied to the area which is affected.

With poor dental hygiene most people suffer from tooth sensitivity, which is another cause of toothache. Treating this at home for a short period of time can be perfect.
